Atheism a Religion?

I thought this photo said it all:

Greetings,
Okay, this will be two in one day for me, so I'm I'll stop after this. I just posted a question on the Designer's Goofs post as well.

Obviously your post here isn't intended in any serious argumentative sense, but more in the humorous/propaganda/rhetoric sense.

Nonetheless, even for such purposes, wouldn't some analysis of the necessary and sufficient conditions for a belief to count as "religious" be required here, i.e. before you could make the distinction between your view and your opponents'?

Look forward to hearing from you on both fronts.

take care,
BT.

I think you're at risk of a challenging parity argument here. Baldness is generally not a good thing. So (by parity) atheism is not a good thing. After all, people with hair have accurate views of people without.

There's a lot of hair-splitting going on here (lol), so here's another analogy for you hair-splitters: athesim is a religion like not collecting stamps is a hobby.

Are people seriously arguing over this? This is just stating a fact, that happens to be commonly misunderstood. It cannot be wrong, it's correct by definition!

If he put up a picture saying 1+1=2, are you guys gonna say something on that too?

The version I came up with is "Atheism is a religion like abstinence is a sex position."

Well, foodandotherrequirements, you don't often see non-stamp collectors spending inordinate amounts of time talking and debating about stamp collecting.

That's because stamp collectors aren't claiming special knowledge of morality and the universe and trying to enforce that on the rest of us in our laws, our science classes, etc. We don't worry too much about astrologers for exactly the same reason.

We'll stop talking and debating about gods when you do.
